Abstract
Pancreatic sepsis is a serious complication of pancreatitis. The diagnosis is usually suspected when a patient with severe pancreatitis appears toxic and develops fever and leukocytosis [1]. However, these clinical and laboratory findings also occur in sterile pancreatitis [2]. Computed tomography suggests sepsis only in the presence of pancreatic gas. However, pancreatic gas is a late and infrequent finding and has alternative explanations, such as prior surgery, or perforation of a pseudocyst into the intestine [3, 4].
