Early Objective Diagnosis and Staging of Acute Pancreatitis by Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography

  • Chapter
Acute Pancreatitis

Abstract

Early assessment of the severity of acute pancreatitis (i.e., differentiation between edematous and necrotizing pancreatitis, and appraisal of the extent of intra- and extrapancreatic necrosis) on the basis of clinical and biochemical features has been recognized as a problem [1 – 4]. But correct recognition of the stage any given case of pancreatitis has reached may be a necessary precondition for adequate treatment [5, 6].
