Optimality in the Presence of Discreteness and Discontinuity

Optimization in Structural Design

Abstract

Most of the literature in the field of optimal structural design deals with the various computational aspects of the problem. Papers which concern themselves with the establishment of fundamental principles and their applications are, by comparison, relatively rare, as is evident from the comprehensive review of the literature (up to 1968) by Sheu and Prager [1].
