Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 39))

Abstract

In Muenster in 1957 [1], I presented a paper entitled “A preliminary experimental assessment of the significance of asbestos bodies”. I stated in the paper that following Fahr’s [2] first observation of peculiar bodies in sections from the lung of a patient dying of asbestosis, there had been considerable controversy concerning the composition of these bodies and the role that they play in the pathogenesis of the disease.

The following team members were responsible for these studies: Dr. J. C. Gilson (Director), J. C. Wagner, C. Gold, D. E. Munday, W. H. Roberts (Pathology); G. Berry (Statistics); V. Timbrell, J. W. Skidmore, M. Griffiths (Physics); T. G. Morris (Chemistry) from MRC Pneumoconiosis Unit; B. Commins (MRC Air Pollution Unit); A. Morgan and A. Holmes (A.E.R.E. Harwell); and F. D. Pooley (Department of Mineral Exploitation, University College, Cardiff).
