The Pathologic Anatomy of Mycoses

Part of the book series: Handbuch der Speziellen Pathologischen Anatomie und Histologie ((1692,volume 3 / 5))

Abstract

Mucormycosis is an acute, frequently fatal, fungus disease characterized by the occurrence of broad, non-septate (coenocytic) hyphae in tissues which tend to grow into arteries and produce thrombosis and infarction. The infection nearly always develops in a person whose resistance is lowered by a metabolic disorder, a blood dyscrasia, corticosteroid therapy, or malnutrition. Mucormycosis complicates diabetic acidosis and leukemia.
