Polysiloxanes and Polymers Containing Siloxane Groups

  • Chapter
Silicon in Polymer Synthesis

Abstract

Polysiloxanes or, to be more precise, poly (organosiloxane)s are polymers made up of the following structural units:

$$_{{\scriptstyle M - \quad \quad D - \quad \;T - \quad \quad Q - unit \hfill \atop \scriptstyle (mono - )\;(di - )\;(tri - )\quad (quadro - functional) \hfill}}^{{{R_{2}}Si{O_{{1/2}}}\;{R_{2}}SiO\;RSi{O_{{3/2}}}\;Si{O_{{4/2}}}}}$$

R is a monovalent organic alkyl and/or aryl group which can be substituted with functional groups X as necessary.
