Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 138))

Abstract

Limb-sparing resection in combination with irradiation and/or chemotherapy is nowadays recommended as the treatment of choice in soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities, delivering survival rates which are comparable to those after amputation and a better quality of life (Arlen and Marcove 1987; Lawrence 1987; Okunieff and Suit 1986; Shiu et al. 1986; Steinau et al. 1988; Suit et al. 1987; Wexler et al. 1988).
