Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis: Immunological and Clinical Aspects

  • Chapter
Human Pathogenic Papillomaviruses

Part of the book series: Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology ((CT MICROBIOLOGY,volume 186))

Abstract

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is a rare life-long genetic skin disorder associated with specific human papillomaviruses (EV HPVs) and characterized by disseminated wart-like or pityriasis versicolor (PV)-like lesions and skin cancers. The cases may be familial or sporadic, and the inheritance is believed to be autosomal recessive (Lutzner 1978), although single cases of X-linked inheritance have been reported (Androphy et al. 1985).
