Abstract
During the last few centuries the connection between time and mechanical time-pieces has become so intimate that it is hard for us to depict time without thinking about a clock. The question that naturally follows is whether and how clocks then have influenced our conception of time. Maybe clocks have moulded our concept of time to a greater degree than we are aware of. If so, what are the consequences for the existential, social and scientific utilization of temporal concepts today?
