Abstract

No universal yardstick can be used to determine the modality of treatment a patient with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is likely to get. Two major criteria eventually decide the fate of that patient, and both have little to do with actual medical practice:

    The part of the world the patient happens to be born in

  2. 2

    The extent of his wealth
