Abstract
The colony of northern elephant seals (Mirounga angustirostris) on the Farallons has grown with remarkable speed since 1959 when the first elephant seal was seen there after an absence of more than 150 years. Most of this growth is due to immigration from southern rookeries (Cooper and Stewart 1983; Huber et al. in press).
