Abstract
In the past decade most empirical studies investigating schizoaffective psychoses have confirmed that regarding outcome these psychoses occupy an intermediate position between schizophrenic and affective disorders (Angst 1980a,b, 1986; Brockington et al. 1980a,b; Harrow and Grossman 1984; Pope et al. 1980; Rzewuska and Angst 1982). In the Cologne study (using narrow definitions based on the longitudinal approach and employing standardized instruments of evaluation) we found that the long-term outcome of schizoaffective disorders is much more favorable than that of schizophrenia (Marneros et al. 1986c, 1989a,b).
