Abstract
With a sensitivity of 90%, conventional enzymatic liver function tests are sufficient for screening of liver disease, although specificity is low. The value of the quantitative function tests (Table 1) lies in their capacity to detect specific hepatocellular partial functions. Definition of severity and evaluation of functional restriction may give clues to the prognosis of a disease, to the indication for shunt operation, or to the necessity of therapy in chronic active hepatitis [3, 10, 13, 18, 20, 23, 26, 27].
