Forschungsinstrumente zur Erfassung der Lebensqualität bei Krebs — ein Überblick

  • Chapter
Psychosoziale Onkologie

Part of the book series: Jahrbuch der medizinischen Psychologie ((MEDPSYCHOL,volume 3))

Summary

The increasing recognition of psychosocial aspects of cancer treatment has resulted in multiple approaches to measuring quality of life in therapeutic studies. These approaches include checklists and questionnaires based on physician and patient ratings of global quality of life and its components, i.e. physical state, psychological well-being, social relationships and functions of every day life. Available instruments range from general assessments of quality of life across diseases to cancer-specific approaches.

Based on conceptual, methodological and practical criteria, the appropriateness of these instruments for research purposes is discussed with special reference to their translation and testing for use with German-speaking patients. Recommendations for the selection of scales for specific study purposes are given, and problem areas requiring further investigation are identified.
