Abstract

The tendency of a redox couple to donate or accept electrons is given by the redox potential (E) and is measured as a reduction potential with reference to the standard hydrogen electrode (0 V) (Scheme 7.1). Practical aspects of the determination of redox potential and the use of the Nernst equation have been dealt with in Pettigrew & Moore (1987: Chapter 1).
