Abstract
Our previous studies in dogs have demonstrated that the pressure-volume responses at a constant rate of 0.2 cc/sec and the slow ICP waves due to the respiratory cycle are dependent on the rigidity of the skull. They are significantly reduced by opening the intracranial system (ICS) to the atmosphere as previously described (Anile et al. 1987). In contrast, the amplitude of short perturbations, such as a very rapid bolus-injection and the ICP pulse waves remains unchanged.
