Zusammenfassung

Die Kontrolle des lokalen und regionalen Tumorwachstums ist gerade bei den Patienten, bei denen konventionelle Radiotherapie, Chirurgie und Chemotherapie versagen, entscheidend für die Verbesserung der Heilungsrate und der Lebensqualität sowie der Verlängerung der Überlebenszeit. Die Strahlentherapie mit schweren Ionen vermag viele dieser Tumoren wirksam zu behandeln, während die strukturelle und funktioneile Integrität des Normalgewebes unangetastet bleibt.
