Abstract
New therapeutic regimes like combinations of radio- or chemotherapy with hyperthermia have given rise to growing interest in methods for the in vivo assessment of tumor physiology and metabolism [1]. These methods usually require the use of radioactive compounds which undergo well-defined processes in the organism. Therefore, the attempt to monitor biologic properties of tumors necessitates considering organic radiopharmaceuticals and, in particular, positron emitters. This paper deals with the application of organic radioagents for the assessment of microcirculation and cellular integrity in tumors, and for therapeutic research.
