Abstract
Many books and reviews have been written during recent years which describe the structure and physiology of mycorrhizal symbioses (some examples are: Harley 1969, Marks and Kozlowski 1973, Smith 1974, Sanders et al. 1975, Harley 1978 a, b, Mikola 1980, Smith 1980, Harley and Smith 1983). This chapter will therefore, after a general introduction, restrict itself to a few special aspects of the interaction between mycorrhizal fungi and their hosts which are either under active investigation or about which much new information is needed before advances can be made.
