Abstract
A 9000-year-long record of atmospheric 14C/12C isotope ratio change is given and interpreted in terms of solar modulation and geomagnetic field intensity changes. Upper limits for the 13C/12C isotope ratio changes in atmospheric CO2 of the A.D. era are derived and related to changes in exchange rate and size of carbon reservoirs. The 13C variability added by the trees’ photosynthetic cycle is discussed, and an attempt is made to separate the global 13C signal from the internal 13C variability through normalization on constant assimilation rates.
