Effect of Megadose Steroids on ICP In Traumatic Coma

  • Conference paper
Intracranial Pressure IV

Abstract

There is general agreement that corticosteroids diminish cerebral edema in a variety of central nervous system pathological states, including malignant brain tumors and brain abscesses. In the hope that such edema reduction also occurs in head injured patients, corticosteroids are widely used in patients with craniocerebral trauma, although no well-controlled clinical trials have been conducted to demonstrate unequivocally the benefit of steroids in this setting.
