Abstract
Large and small cattle, as well as courtyard animals, all belong to the so-called “warm-blooded” animals. These animals thus have a physiological system — called thermoregulation — the purpose of which is to maintain their body temperature within a very narrow range, within which alone life is possible. Either a lowering of the body temperature below a certain limit, or a rise above an upper threshold causes the death of the individual. Those thresholds vary from species to species, and even from age to age within the same species. Each individual may nevertheless endure either a cooling or a heating of the body, but only for rather short periods of time.
