Abstract
If plant roots are excavated from the soil it is in most cases sufficient to expose only one part of the whole root system. Such partial excavations as the sector methods (Sect. 3.3.4) can be modified by removing only few centimeters of soil from a profile wall and be used to record the exposed roots.
