Zusammenfassung
Das Gehirn reagiert auf eine Unterbrechung seiner Durchblutung fast augenblicklich mit Bewußtseinsverlust (20); innerhalb von weniger als 15 s wird das EEG isoelektrisch, und nach etwa 4 – 6 min depolarisieren die Zellmembranen der Neurone, wodurch jegliche elektrische oder synaptische Erregbarkeit erlischt (14). So rasch die Schädigung eintritt, so langsam bildet sie sich zurück, selbst wenn die Durchblutungsunterbrechung nur wenige Minuten beträgt. Aus experimenteller Sicht ist dies zunächst schwer verständlich, da selbst nach sehr lang dauernder Ischämie spezifische Funktionen von Nervenzellen zurückkehren können. So läßt sich beispielsweise nachweisen, daß bereits 15 min nach einem einstündigen totalen Durchblutungsstillstand die Zellmembranen repolarisiert sind und 1 h später EEG-Aktivitäten zurückkehren können (14).
