Abstract
Analysis of the rates of photosynthesis and respiration of plant species in controlled environments provides a quantitative assessment of factors controlling production. Predictions of production, based on these results and on the climate in the vegetation, are compared with the observed seasonal changes in standing crop described in the previous chapter.
