Computerized Tomographic Findings with Brain Abscesses

  • Chapter
Cranial Computerized Tomography

Abstract

There can be no doubt that the demonstration of a brain abscess is one of the most difficult chapters of neurologic diagnosis even today. In every phase of its development, the brain abscess is subject to numerous external influences. On the one hand the clinical picture can be dominated by the signs of an acute meningitis,on the other hand, the symptomatology closely resembles that of a tumor in the same localization. Even more confusing is the fact that the use of more or less random antibiotic therapy often masks the clinical course of the illness.
