Zusammenfassung

Das klinische Erscheinungsbild der Alzheimer Demenz (AD) beruht auf einer progredienten Degeneration von Nervenzellen. Es ist heute recht gut bekannt, welche Nervenzellen und welche funktionellen Systeme von der Degeneration betroffen sind. Demgegenüber werden die Ursachen und Mechanismen für diesen Zelluntergang bisher nur sehr ungenügend verstanden.
