Development of PCR-Based Assays for the Detection of Chromosomal Translocations Using SYBR Green I

  • Chapter
Rapid Cycle Real-Time PCR

Abstract

The majority of human hematopoietic malignancies carry non-random chromosomal translocations. The deregulation of specific genes that occurs as a consequence of translocations has been shown to be central to the pathogenesis of such diseases. In addition, each translocation is often characteristic of a particular subtype of neoplasm, thus making chromosomal translocations valuable as diagnostic markers of disease.
