Abstract
The syndrome we call schizophrenia usually always appears in early to mid-adult life [24, 51, 52]. However, there is ample evidence that those who will develop it are a little different from their peers long before this, at a much earlier stage of the life course. These differences may be the manifestations of the same causes that later lead to schizophrenia, they may be distinct from these effects, or they may be the age-related, non-psychotic manifestations of schizophrenia itself; we don’t know.
