Uranium migration in argillaceous sediments as analogue for transport processes in the far field of repositories (Ruprechtov site, Czech Republic)

Uranium in the Aquatic Environment

Abstract

For long-term performance assessment of radioactive waste repositories it is essential to consider the potential mobility of critical radionuclides through the relevant rock material under representative long-term conditions. The aim of this natural analogue study is to understand and quantify the relevant long-term geochemical and hydraulic processes at the Ruprechtov site in Czech Republic and to identify the mechanisms leading to mobilisation/immobilisation of uranium, thorium and radium. The actual results from the bilateral project of NRI and GRS will be presented.
