Abstract

Echiura are marine bottom-dwelling worms which occupy a phylogenetic position related to the Annelida. They are characterized by a prostomial proboscis (Fig. 1) which is primarily a feeding organ, and which moves over the sea bed by ciliary action of the dorsal surface which is applied to the substrate.
