Abstract
The transport characters of group sized sediment before and after the reservoir operation are compared and analyzed. Field data shows the transport character of coarse particle is various in different reaches. Before the reservoir operation, the dramatic decrease of the hydraulic condition in some reaches mainly causes the deposition. After the reservoir operation, shortage of the supply from riverbed decides that almost all grain sized sediment may be eroded, when the reach is near the dam. While in the reaches eroded slightly, the transport character of some group sized sediment will be consistent with what it was before, if their supply is sufficient and they can get saturated. Long-distance erosion is caused by shortage of the supply from riverbed, especially the shortage of fine particle.
