Globales Denken ist ein integraler Bestandteil einer wissenschaftlich fundierten Zukunftsforschung, da sie auf einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz basiert. Und so heißt es auch im Vorwort des jüngsten Berichts des Millennium Projects der United Nations University: „The purpose of futures research is to systematically explore, create, and test both possible and desirable futures to improve decisions. Decision making is affected by globalization; hence, global futures research will be needed to inform decisions made by individuals, groups, and institutions“ (Glenn et al. 2007). Allerdings folgt aus dieser globalen Ausrichtung auch eine Berücksichtigung interkultureller Aspekte, seien dies nun Übereinstimmungen oder Unterschiede, bei der zukunftsforscherischen Arbeit.
