Portal hypertension (PHT) is a manifestation of a wide variety of conditions, each with a different natural history. It frequently presents with bleeding from esophageal varices which is the commonest cause of serious gastrointestinal bleeding in children. Precise diagnosis, a clear understanding of therapeutic options, and a multidisciplinary approach are essential for successful management.
