The Role of Computed Tomography

  • Chapter
Imaging of the Pancreas

Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Diagn Imaging))

Abstract

Continuous acquisition (either single or multidetector configuration) has a pivotal role in the evaluation of patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) in all stages of the disease (Malfertheiner and Buchler 1989; Forsmark 2000; Brizi et al. 2001). These can be divided into an early phase of relapsing pancreatitis (RP) in which episodes of mild acute pancreatitis (MAP) or severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) repeatedly occur over a period of time, an early chronic stage, and irreversible advanced CP (Malfertheiner and Buchler 1989; Lankisch and Banks 1998).
