Abstract

To understand the interactions between receptors which result in color and brightness discriminations, it would be valuable to know the spatial distribution of color receptors. It would be useful just to learn the percentage of red-, green-, and blue-sensitive cones as a function of retinal position. It would be much more useful to know the detailed classification within small regions from receptor to receptor, especially if it were true in primates, as it is in fish, that there is a regularly repeated pattern in the cone mosaic.
