Abstract
During pregnancy, there are multiple significant metabolic, hormonal, and immunologic changes that produce cutaneous manifestations. When evaluating a pregnant patient with skin findings, one should remember several rules. Most skin disorders during pregnancy represent either physiologic changes or other skin diseases that have simply appeared in pregnancy. All therapies, topical and systemic, should be reconsidered in light of the pregnancy. The evaluation of all papulosquamous eruptions should include serologic testing for syphilis; to miss secondary syphilis in pregnancy is a major error with serious consequences.
