Zusammenfassung

Auch wenn sich Foucault, mit Blick auf sein Gesamtwerk, nur en passant mit einem Phänomen beschäftigt hat, das üblicherweise als Domäne sonderpädagogischer oder rehabilitationswissenschaftlicher Fächer gilt, nämlich mit der Differenzkategorie ›Behinderung‹, so ist doch sein Werk ein zentraler Bezugspunkt der interdisziplinären und internationalen Disability Studies. Bereits 1961, in Wahnsinn und Gesellschaft, hatte Foucault herausgearbeitet, dass der Wahnsinn kein objektives Faktum darstellt, sondern nur in seinem Verhältnis zur Vernunft analytisch erfasst werden kann. Ein ähnliches Vorhaben charakterisiert auch die Disability Studies, für die eine gesellschaftskritische Orientierung prägend ist.
