Zusammenfassung

Mit der zweiten Welle des Feminismus im Westen kamen die Geschlechterbeziehungen so in Bewegung, dass sich in den 1990er Jahren bereits mehrere ganz unterschiedliche Reaktionen von westlichen Männern herauskristallisiert hatten. Das eine Extrem dieses Spektrums bildeten der anti-feministische Backlash (vgl. Faludi 1991) und ein „konkurrierender Opferdiskurs“ (Cox 1995), wie er z.B. in der Diskussion um die Benachteiligung von Jungen im Bildungssystem zum Ausdruck kam („What About the Boys?“ Yates 1997, Lingard/Douglas 1999). Das andere Extrem waren die anti-sexistischen, pro-feministischen Männerbewegungen. Zwischen diesen Extremen standen die mythopoetische Männerbewegung (vgl. Kimmel 1995, Schwalbe 1996) und weitere Reaktionen z.B. von Männern des ‚New Age‘. Einen Gesamtüberblick über dieses Spektrum gibt das hervorragende Buch von Messner (1997). So unterschiedlich die Wirkungen auch waren, die diese zweite Welle des Feminismus bei den Männern hervorrief, so sicher ist es ihr doch gelungen, Männer und Männlichkeit zu problematisieren.
