Frankreich 1991/92: Europäische Herausforderung und nationale Ungewißheiten

Zusammenfassung

Wer sich im Herbst 1991 für eine Weile in Frankreich niederließ und dort die Diskussion über die Stellung der Nation in der Welt und über ihre innere Verfassung verfolgte, stieß allenthalben auf Signale der politischen Verdrossenheit: „Politische Trübsal“ und „Finstersucht“, Frankreich „mit Motorschaden“, „die französische Regression“, das „Ende einer Regierungsperiode“, das „Ende des Zyklus von Epinay“, das „Ende des Zyklus von 1917“, das „Ende des Zyklus von 1789“,1 das „Ende der Geschichte“.2 Es wäre gewiß naiv, diese finalen Lesarten der Situation Frankreichs 1991/92 für bare Münze zu nehmen. Eine politische Publizistik, die in diesem Land für sich in Anspruch nimmt, sensibler auf tektonische Erschütterungen in der Politik zu reagieren als anderswo, entwickelt unvermeidlich auch die Neigung, diese Veränderungen zu übersteigern.
