Zusammenfassung
Unternehmen, die internationale Aktivitäten planen oder die Engagements ausbauen wollen, haben auf Grund knapper Ressourcen und der Heterogenität der Märkte zu entscheiden, welche Länder Zielmärkte sein sollen, wobei über 200 Länder mit ihren gesetzlichen, politischen, kulturellen Besonderheiten den „Suchraum“bilden. Diese Besonderheiten, im Wesentlichen aber die oft begrenzte Informationstransparenz von Entscheidungsträgern und die Interdependenzen zwischen internationalen Märkten, verleihen den Konzepten der internationalen Marktwahl ihren originären Charakter. Methodisch werden hingegen, aus bspw. der Marketingforschung, bekannte „Techniken“herangezogen. Obwohl die Marktwahl prinzipiell für alle Wertschöpfungsfunktionen relevant ist (vgl. im Kontext der Konfiguration Zentes/Swoboda/Morschett 2004), stehen Absatzmärkte deutlich im Vordergrund. Die Absatzmarktwahl bildet eine traditionelle Frage im Rahmen der Internationalisierung (vgl. bspw. Papadopoulos/Chen/Thomas 2002, S. 116ff.). In der deutschsprachigen Forschung lag hier ein Schwerpunkt in den achtziger Jahren, während die Internationalisierung von Unternehmen v.a. seit den neunziger Jahren an Bedeutung gewann (Minifie/West 1998, S. 451). Es verwundert also nicht, dass bereits Schuh/Trefzger (1991, S. 111ff.) beachtliche Differenzen zwischen den normativen Modellen und der Vorgehensweise von Unternehmen herausstellen.
