Zusammenfassung
Eine international tätige Unternehmung ist eine erwerbswirtschaftliche Organisation, die auf Dauer nationale Grenzen überschreitende Aktivitäten entfaltet, gleich in welcher Form und in welchem Umfang (vgl. Macharzina/Engelhard 1987, S. 322). Das Management solcher Unternehmungen ist im Grundsatz mit denselben Problemen konfrontiert wie das Management national tätiger Unternehmungen. Darüber hinaus aber hat es Antworten auf Fragen zu finden wie: Ist eine Exportstrategie zielführend oder sollten in konsequenter Fortführung des Internationalisierungsprozesses auf Auslandsmärkten Direktinvestitionen getätigt werden? Welche marktlichen und kulturellen Besonderheiten müssen bei der Formulierung der Exportstrategie berücksichtigt werden? Wie sollte sie organisatorisch umgesetzt werden? Wenn die Entscheidung für Direktinvestitionen ausfällt, welche Funktionen sollten im Ausland wahrgenommen werden (z.B. Aufbau eigener Vertriebsniederlassungen, Akquisition ausländischer Produktionsstätten, Gründung eines F&E-Joint Venture)? Wie sollten die internationalen Informations- und Kommunikationssysteme ausgestaltet werden? Wie soll die Kontrolle ausländischer Tochtergesellschaften erfolgen? Wie können organisationale Routinen über Landesgrenzen hinweg durchgesetzt und aufrecht erhalten werden? Welchen Umfang sollte der Führungskräftetransfer annehmen, wie sollte er konkret organisiert werden? Sollten die ausländischen Niederlassungen ethno-, poly- oder geozentrisch geführt werden? Wie kann es gelingen, das Management von ausländischen Tochtergesellschaften auf das Gesamtinteresse der Unternehmung zu verpflichten?
