Zusammenfassung
Der Entschluß, Vertrauen zu schenken, beruht - so Colemans Ausgangsthese - auf einem schlichten und durchaus kaltherzigen Kalkül. Wer Vertrauen schenkt, trifft eine auf den eigenen Nutzen bedachte riskante Entscheidung. Das Vertrauens-problem wird dabei immer dann virulent, wenn man das erwartete zukünftige Verhalten anderer bei der Wahl einer eigenen Handlung mit in Rechnung stellen muß. Es entsteht, sobald überhaupt folgenorientiert sozial gehandelt wird. Das Vertrauensproblem ist - so gefaßt - ein omnipräsentes Problem des Gegenstandsbereichs der Soziologie, und es findet deshalb bereits im ersten Teil von James Colemans „Grundlegung der Sozialtheorie“ seinen angemessenen Platz.
