Ausscheidung von Organischen Säuren durch die Zucker-Rübenwurzel und Deren Bedeutung für die P-Mobilisierung im Boden

Exudation of Organic Acids by Sugar Beet Roots-Effect on P-Mobilization in Soil

  • Chapter
Pflanzliche Stoffaufnahme und mikrobielle Wechselwirkungen in der Rhizosphäre

Summary

Experiments were conducted to determine the quantity of organic acids in root exudates, if any, released by sugar beet plants and to measure P solubility after addition of organic acids to soil.

In a first experiment, sugar beet plants were grown in quartzsand at different levels of P application. After 20 days, root exudates were collected by transfering plants of different P status to 2 mM CaCl2 solution for 16 hours. Organic acids were estimated in root exudates by HPLC. Roots of sugar beet plants grown at different P levels released oxalic acid, oxalacetic acid and citric acid generally in the ratio of 1 : 0,35 : 0,15. The amount of carboxylates exuded by P deficient plants (less than 0,1 % P of shoot-dm) were significantly higher as compared to P sufficient plants. Maximum amount of 23 nmol ٭ m root length-1 ٭ h-1 of oxalic acid was released by P deficient plants.

In another experiment, different amounts of mixture of oxalic acid, oxalacetic acid and citric acid (in the ratio of 1 0,35 0,15) were used to extract P from soil (Fluvisol — of medium P status) by shaking 20 g soil and 50 ml mixture for 16 hours. Increasing amounts of mixture of organic acid progressively increased the amount of P released from soil and decreased the pH. It has also been shown that main P fraction mobilized by organic acids was that bound to surfaces of Fe/Al-oxides via ligand exchange. The increase in P solubility by a decrease of pH (due to higher solubility of Ca-phosphate) was not much in the present soil.
