Abstract

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an innovative, advanced endoscopic approach to superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms which is becoming a “standard” treatment option and has the potential to revolutionize treatment of early alimentary cancers. Colorectal neoplasia represents an important potential niche for the clinical application of ESD in the United States given the prevalence of these tumors. ESD is a reliable but technically challenging method for en bloc resection of gastrointestinal lesions and requires dedicated equipment, a unique skill set, and experience.
