Abstract

The updated curriculum for engineering pedagogical continuing education for engineering faculty members at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) designed in spring 2021 is presented in this article. The curriculum was designed on the basis of International Society for Engineering Pedagogy (IGIP) new prototype curriculum released in 2020. The Delphi method was used for redesign of the curriculum. Expert panel consisting of 12 experts participated in the Delphi survey of three rounds. Learning theories and didactical models integrated in the curriculum design are presented along with the sources of curriculum design. An overview of trends in curriculum development is presented. Best known scientific models of curriculum design have been analyzed. Induction-based scientific principles developed by Hilda Taba have been selected due to its suitable scientific approach as the basis for curriculum redesign and is presented in this article. Integration and inter-relationship of the curriculum models and subject courses are analyzed. The scientific framework for curriculum design along with the detailed description of the design process and used methodology are presented. It is planned to start piloting of the redesigned curriculum in September 2021 at TalTech School of Engineering. After the first feedback from learners, relevant further changes and improvements will be made.
