Abstract

Population of Latvia is declining every year due to rate of natural decrease and negative rate of net migration indicators [1]. It is a topical issue since it affects stability and growth of the country.

The aim is to identify the related economic and social factors that affect emigration in Latvia based on analysis of migration data, and to develop proposals to improve the situation.

Authors made a research using scientific literature and statistical data in order to find the most important aspects of global migration and most popular reasons to emigrate from Latvia. This research helped divide many factors of migration according to categories and migrant goals, to further analyze relationships between specific economic factors and migration.

The research analyses determining factors of labor migration and there is used statistical analysis methods, including correlation method, which determines the relationship and closeness of various data as well as significance of the data that is analyzed.

The analyses identify push and pull factors of migrants. The Latvian workforce is mainly influenced by economic and social factors.
