Handbook of Interdisciplinary Treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract

This chapter introduces a brief history of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and examines the development of interdisciplinary teams in the diagnosis and treatment of ASD, a trend that is growing across the field. It details the ways in which interdisciplinary teams have proved instrumental in delivering appropriate care for individuals on the spectrum and addressing the myriad challenges that they and their families face. The chapter describes the history of interdisciplinary teamwork and how it is distinguished from other models, such as multidisciplinary and intradisciplinary teams.
