Description of Trekking Routes in Dogu’a Tembien

Geo-trekking in Ethiopia’s Tropical Mountains

Part of the book series: GeoGuide ((GEO))

Abstract

Trekking routes have been designed both to visit geosites and to illustrate Dogu’a Tembien’s mountain landscapes. As compared with the Simien Mountains, the major trekking destination in Ethiopia, Dogu’a Tembien is much more accessible and the heavy constraints imposed by the National Park administration do not apply. Just appreciate the geomorphic, geological, biotic and cultural diversity, use common sense, to sociable with the local communities, and the whole book of Dogu’a Tembien opens. The trek descriptions include cross-references to the 35 thematic chapters of Volume I, as well as seven ground plans of rock churches and additional ground plans of the 330-m long Zeyi cave and the 145-m long “Vase” cave. Thirty-three landscape photographs taken along the trek routes are also included.
