Next Generation and Advanced Network Reliability Analysis

Part of the book series: Signals and Communication Technology ((SCT))

Abstract

Software Defined Networking (SDN) is an evolving technology and has vast implications on how we manage and control current and future networking infrastructures. It provides the means of simplifying management and control of current network and way forward in deploying newer technologies.

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the reader with SDN concepts and cover high-level architectures of SDN. This chapter, like other chapters in this book, will focus on reliability and availability of SDN and is not meant to cover areas like security, optimization, standardization, etc., but references are provided for the reader to pursue these areas of research as needed. Reliability analysis using Markov modeling of SDN architecture will be covered in detail.
